CEO of EE, UK's largest mobile network, to step down after acquisition by BT

It"s been just over a year since EE, the UK"s largest mobile network (for now), confirmed that it was in exclusive talks to be acquired by BT, the country"s largest provider of fixed line telephony and broadband services. The terms of that deal were agreed by the two companies in February 2015, although it"s still awaiting final regulatory approval from the UK Competition and Markets Authority.

EE seems confident that that approval will come soon though, and in preparation for the completion of its acquisition by BT, it has announced the upcoming departure of its CEO, Olaf Swantee.

Swantee - who has been EE"s chief executive since its launch in 2012, when it became the UK"s first 4G network - will step down when BT Group officially takes over the company.

He will be replaced by EE"s current Chief Commercial Officer, Marc Allera. In its press release, the company credited Allera with "driving one of the fastest uptakes of 4G seen anywhere in the world"; indeed, last May, EE became Europe"s largest 4G carrier, with over ten million customers - a number that has undoubtedly grown further since then.
