As usual, Samsung had a strong showing this year at CES 2017. The company showed off new 8K TVs, QLED TVs, laptops, and smart home appliances.
Let"s start with its new smart refrigerator, which includes Family Hub 2.0. It uses Tizen, so you won"t get the same app support that you"ll get with one that runs Windows, but it contains a lot of family-friendly features, such as a shared calendar, to-do lists, memos, maps, and more. There are also plenty of music apps, like Pandora, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and more.
You can also use it to cast from your Samsung Smart TV. I wasn"t able to confirm what technology it uses to cast, but it"s not Miracast, as it only works with Samsung TVs.
You can also see what"s inside of the fridge, as there"s a panoramic camera inside of it. It only shows you an image of the contents though, unlike LG"s smart refrigerators that actually turn the display transparent.
The company also showed off some new laptops. The Notebook 9 was announced in December as "the lightest notebook on the market", coming in at 1.8 pounds. Pre-orders just opened for it though, right before CES began.
And then there"s the Notebook Odyssey, which was unveiled on Wednesday. These are gaming laptops, and they look pretty stylish, coming in both black and white colors.
But that"s really the least of what Samsung showed off. There"s a pair of new 8K TVs, which look incredible. I"m still not clear on what kind of cable they use, as HDMI 2.0 wouldn"t work, and the HDMI 2.1 spec isn"t out yet.
And then there"s the array of the company"s QLED displays, which use Quantum Dot technology. Check out all of that and more in my guided tour of the Samsung booth.
