Some of my favorite things to come out of CES this year have to do with retro gaming. One device that I came across is My Arcade"s Retro Champ, a handheld console that lets you play your old NES and Famicom cartridges.
It has a seven-inch display and the controls are on the sides, just as you"d expect from a handheld console. But there"s more, because it has an HDMI out port on the back that you can use to connect it to a TV. After that, you can pair up to two controllers with it, which connect through Bluetooth. That way, you have the choice between using it as a handheld or as a full console.
There"s also a built-in piece where you can store cleaning solutions for your games, so you don"t have to blow on them anymore. You"ll have to provide your own cleaning solution though.
I played Total Recall and Baseball on the prototype unit, which is in no way finalized. It was a bit heavy, but I was told that the final unit will be lighter.
The My Arcade Retro Champ is slated to arrive in June, and it will retail for $79.99.
