CES reports record attendance for 2012 show

Despite some commentators writing that the Consumer Electronic Show is losing part of its luster now that Microsoft is no longer involved, this week"s CES 2012 show in Las Vegas had record attendance. Accoording to a press release from the show"s organizers, CES 2012 had over 153,000 people come to the Las Vegas Convention Center and other locations in the city. Those numbers are preliminary, by the way. An independent audit will be conducted and final attendance numbers will be announced later this spring.

CES 2012 also had a record number of exhibitors, over 3,100, that were spread out over 1.861 million net square feet of exhibit space. The show had 20,000 new products make their debuts at the event.

With CES 2012 now over, the organizers are now looking ahead to CES 2013 which once again will be held in Las Vegas. Next year the show will be held officially on January 8-11, 2013. The organizers claim that a large amount of exhibit space has already been sold for the event.

So who will replace Microsoft in the lead keynote address spot in 2013? Organizers state that decision will be made "in the coming months."
