Check out how Microsoft employees are using the HoloLens with Halo and Edge

Microsoft’s HoloLens isn’t even available for developers yet, but that’s not stopping the company from stirring up some hype for its upcoming product. And this past week we’ve seen a couple of telling examples of this strategy.

First up, Microsoft employees recently got to take home some HoloLens development kits and play around with them and then share some of their experiences online. As you can see in the clips below, the HoloLens is a pretty impressive device that runs full Windows 10.

That means that it’s not just a cool holographic AR headset, but it can also be used the way you’d use a regular PC, for example by streaming Halo or surfing the web.

Of course, this is isn’t an exact replication of what the user is actually seeing. It’s more a sort of a “screenshot” combined with what the device’s cameras are seeing. As such, those of you watching the videos don’t really see the limiting field of view that these devices currently have. In other words these clips make the experience seem better than it actually currently is. But that’s not to say they’re not very cool, and you can probably get some good ideas for HoloLens use cases out of them.

Secondly, an internal Microsoft website was uncovered last night, which provided users with short tutorials on how to use Edge with HoloLens. Seeing that input methods are centered around your hand gestures Edge now gets some extra controls on top when used with the AR headset. These let users scroll, drag and zoom inside the browser with a few simple gestures. If you want to get ready to use Edge on a HoloLens check out the tutorial videos below.
