Check out this $239 tablet that dual-boots Windows 10 and the Android-based Remix OS

Chuwi isn"t exactly a brand with global recognition, but the Chinese firm has launched a wide range of Windows 10 devices in recent months. From the 8-inch Hi8 Pro to the Surface-like Hi12 tablet, Chuwi"s range offers solid specs at remarkably low prices - and now, there"s a new addition to its line-up.

Chuwi has launched the new Vi10 Plus in two configurations: one with the Android-based Remix OS; and another version with slightly better specs that dual-boots Remix OS and Windows 10.

The shared spec list of both devices includes:

  • 10.8-inch display with 1920x1280px resolution
  • Intel Atom (Cherry Trail) X5 processor with Intel HD Graphics Gen8 GPU
  • 2MP rear camera
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • USB 3.0 Type-C port
  • 8400mAh battery
  • 276.4 x 184.8 x 8.8mm; 687g

Here"s where the two versions differ: the Vi10 Plus that comes with Remix OS alone has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage; the model that dual-boots both Remix OS and Windows 10 has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Aside from that, the two models are identical.

But what exactly is Remix OS? It"s based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, and according to its developers:

Remix OS is our state of the art Android-based operating system. We mean it when we say you get a PC experience unlike anything on Android and an Android experience unlike anything on a PC. The innovative features we"ve brought to Remix OS 2.0 have been meticulously engineered to bring you the best of both worlds – the harmonious fusion of a mobile and desktop experience.

Along with a PC-style taskbar, multitasking support, notifications, and mouse and keyboard support, it also promises "the world"s most advanced File Manager on Android", along with the ability to run Android apps, of course.

The Vi10 Plus goes on sale today, priced at $169 for the Remix-only model; and $239 for the dual-boot version with Windows 10. A detachable "magnetic docking keyboard" and Chuwi HiPen H2 stylus will also be available for the device, but they"ll be sold separately.
