Nokia originally announced its first phone with a notch at the top of the screen - the Nokia X6 - back in May. The Finnish company then turned to Twitter to ask if it should bring the device to international markets and the community"s extremely positive response led to a confirmation that it would indeed be making its way overseas, but we haven"t heard more from the company since then.
That could soon be about to change, however, as a Taiwanese online publication has reported that an official announcement for the market could be happening as soon as July 19, stating that the device will be called the Nokia 6.1 Plus in that market.
The Nokia X6 is a solid mid-range smartphone with a Snapdragon 636 chipset, a Full HD+ screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio and RAM and storage configurations ranging from 4GB and 32GB to 6GB and 64GB, respectively. It also offers dual rear cameras and a 16-megapixel shooter up front. All of this maxes out at an approximate price of $266 in China, which does make it a tempting device, but there"s no word on international pricing yet.
Recent reports suggest that the Nokia X6/6.1 Plus could be joined by a lower-end model in the form of the Nokia X5. The cheaper model would sport a similar look but slightly less impressive specs, such as a MediaTek Helio P23 chipset and lower-resolution screen at 1520 by 720 pixels. That phone is said to be coming on July 11 to the Chinese market at a currently unknown price, with no information regarding a worldwide release.
Nokia"s smartphone business, in the hands of HMD Global, has shown signs of healthy growth and strong value-for-money offerings such as the Nokia X6 could help the company maintain that trend.
