Chuwi has released some interesting devices in the past, including the recent MiniBook, which was launched as an Indiegogo campaign. Today, the company is moving a bit higher up the ranks with the LapBook Plus, its first laptop with a 4K display.
According to the spec list, the laptop features a 15.6-inch panel that"s not only 4K but also supports HDR, with up to 340 nits of brightness, all while covering 100% of the sRGB color gamut. It also comes with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD. Storage can also be expanded through two M.2 SSD slots inside the laptop if you need the extra space.
If you look through some of Chuwi"s past products, most of the cuts tend to be done on the processor, and that seems to be the case here as well. The LapBook Plus is rocking an Intel Atom x7-E3950, with four single-threaded cores at 1.6GHz base speed. This is better than most of its other products, but it won"t live up to the performance level of today"s ultrabooks.
Equally disappointing is the port selection, with one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port, a combo audio jack, a microSD card reader, and a micro-HDMI connector. The battery is 36.5Wh, which Chuwi says should get you nine hours of battery life. Otherwise, the keyboard has a full numeric keypad and is backlit, and the laptop comes in an all-metal design that"s 6mm thin.
To offset some of the downsides of the spec sheet, the LapBook Plus comes in at a fairly low price - $439 until July 10, though the deal is only available through GearBest right now. After the initial promotional period, the laptop will cost $499.
