Popular Chinese tablet manufacturer Chuwi has introduced the Hi8 Air, a dual-boot tablet which will be running both Windows and Android. The tablet is primarily aimed at student groups as an attractive economical option.
This device is said to be an upgrade to the Hi8 Pro which was launched over two years ago. Taking a closer look at the operating systems in play, the Hi8 Air will be powered by Windows 10 and Android 5.1, even though it"s been almost three years since Android (Lollipop) version 5.1 was released. Other technical specifications read as follows:
- 8″ FHD display with 16:10 ratio
- 1.44 GHz Intel X5 Cherry Trail Z8350 processor
- 4000 mAh battery
- 3.5mm Headphone Jack
- 32GB of internal storage
- 2GB RAM
- SD Card support for up to 128GB variants
- Bluetooth 4.0
Moving on to the build quality, the Hi8 Air will come with an all-round metal frame, along with a space grey/silver metal chasis. Moreover, a 5V/2A charger, OTG cable, and a Bluetooth keyboard will be the available accessories packed in the box.
The specifications notably fall short of other new Chuwi tablets like the SurBook Pro and the Hi9, which were recently revealed close to the CES 2018. This doesn"t come as too much of a surprise as the company clearly touts the Hi8 Air as an "economic solution for students". However, most people"s interest will possibly instead be piqued by the fact that switching between both operating systems will reportedly no more than two clicks.
It will be very interesting to see if the upcoming dual-boot tablet lives up to the expectations of those Windows enthusiasts who have been wanting the necessary hardware to run Android apps for years. Availibility and pricing details haven"t been announced yet, but the company will be releasing more information on its official website soon.
