Cinema trailer fights film piracy

Teenagers are being targeted in an anti-piracy drive to reduce the number of films downloaded from the internet.

A trailer comparing downloading from the internet and buying a bootleg DVD to stealing a car or a purse is to be shown in cinemas.

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) trade group is heading the scheme.

Tests on teenagers in the UK found 62% of respondents said the trailer was likely to decrease their downloading behaviour in the future.

The MPA estimates the annual loss in potential revenues to the US motion picture industry from video and disc piracy is more than $3.5bn (£1.9bn).
