Cloudflare experiences network issues; causes problems with Discord, Down Detector and more [Update]

Cloudflare, one of the world"s largest content delivery network services, has been experiencing network issues for the last hour or so. The service boasts over 16 million properties are hosted on its system, and many of them have taken a hit.

These include popular messaging app Discord, RSS aggregation service Feedly and even the site that would normally be your first stop to see if, and why, your favourite websites are down: downdetector.com. The website which detects outages for websites is apparently also hosted on Cloudflare"s network and is, thus, ironically a victim of the same fate that it was designed to warn other websites about.

Cloudflare is observing network performance issues. Customers may be experiencing 502 errors while accessing sites on Cloudflare.

We are working to mitigate impact to Internet users in this region.

Cloudflare"s status tracker acknowledges that the company is experiencing some issues, and notes the following on its website.

Aware of major @Cloudflare issues impacting us network wide. Team is working on getting to the bottom of what’s going on. Will continue to update.

The company"s CEO also acknowledged the issue and promised to update users as the situation develops.

Update: The company seems to have fixed things up. A notice on its status page 11 minutes ago suggests it has implemented a fix and is now monitoring its network to ensure continued service.

Cloudflare has implemented a fix for this issue and is currently monitoring the results.

We will update the status once the issue is resolved.

Discord, Feedly and Down Detector are all back now. Down Detector shows more than 3,000 outage reports in the last hour alone.
