Comcast announced today that it will offer free educational content for home schooling to Xfinity customers. The move is a part of the company"s effort to help parents provide home education to their kids as they self-isolate at home due to coronavirus (COVID-19).
The company will bring around 2,000 hours" worth of children shows and movies for free to customers. The collection of content is developed in collaboration with Common Sense Media and geared towards kindergarten to 12th grade students. There"s programming as well for kids of all ages.
Rebecca Heap, Senior Vice President of Video & Entertainment at Comcast, said:
"Today Xfinity is making thousands of hours of educational programming and resources available to our customers through Xfinity on Demand as we know how challenging it is for families right now who are suddenly homeschooling young children – many with both parents working, as well.The programming selected in partnership with Common Sense Media is available in one comprehensive destination organized by grade level to make it as easy as possible for parents to find what is most relevant to their family.”
Xfinity X1 or Flex users can request to access shows and movies using their voice through the Xfinity Voice Remote. These contents are sourced from various providers such as Animal Planet, HBO, HISTORY, Nick Jr., PBS KIDS, Prime Video, Smithsonian Channel, Blueprint, CuriosityStream, The Great Courses Signature Collection, Grokker Yoga Fitness, HISTORY Vault, Kids Room, and The Reading Corner. Additionally, some of the content can be accessed across several devices via the Xfinity Stream app and website.image widget
