Kalypso Media has swooped in and bought up rights to several franchises by Pyro Studios, which include the classic stealth tactics series Commandos. The deal means that all previous games in the series, as well as any future titles, will all be under Kalypso"s umbrella - which owns series such as Tropico, Sudden Strike, and Dungeons -, with the company saying it plans to introduce new entries as well as re-release the classics.
Kalypso Media Group founder and global managing director Simon Hellwig said that the company will "begin speaking to potential development studios in the near future" in regards to developing "completely new games for all platforms" and "extensive adaptation of the existing titles."
Although Commandos is the most well-known series among the purchased properties, Kalypso Media now also owns Pyro Studios" Imperial Glory and Praetorians IPs. Endorsing the change of hands, Pyro Studios founder Ignacio Pérez stated in a press release:
“We have been looking for a suitable partner for the continuation of our products and brands for a long time. Kalypso has great expertise and experience with rebooting well-known titles, and we are delighted to have our IP in such good hands.”
Since the new owner is still looking at development studios to take the reigns, we may have to wait sometime before getting a brand new Commandos game, but some remasters of the popular classic titles could arrive before that.
