Global analytics company comScore has released data on the US smartphone market share trends for January 2017. The data includes information on the most popular smartphone manufacturers, in addition to data on the most popular smartphone platforms.
Apple continues to dominate the total share of smartphone subscribers, at 44%, with Samsung following behind at 28% total share of the market. Both HTC and Motorola have under 5% of the total smartphone subscribers in the market. This balance may change if both companies prove popular this year: the HTC U Ultra and Motorola"s Moto G5 and G5 Plus both look promising.
The company"s breakdown of the top smartphone platforms indicates that the Android platform takes the largest slice of the market, at 53.2% total share. Apple"s iOS platform trails behind at 44.6%, despite its higher total smartphone subscribers. Microsoft"s Windows Phone platform is continuing to dwindle in popularity, holding just 1.6% of the total market. Interestingly, the near obsolete Blackberry platform continues to hold on to 0.6% of the market share - even though the company has sold its manufacturing rights and moved across to the Android platform.
