ComScore: Windows Phone shows slight growth in the US

Microsoft"s Windows Phone has seen a slight growth in the last quarter after remaining flat in the second quarter of 2014.

ComScore has released its quarterly report for US smartphone marketshare for the months of June to September. According to the report, Android has continued to grow in the US and remains the leader with 52.1%, while there is a minor dip in Apple"s marketshare which now stands at 41.7%. Windows Phone users made up for 3.6%, which is up from the previous quarter"s 3.4%.

The drop in Apple"s marketshare could be attributed to the iPhone 6 anticipation and may not be a trend for the rest of the year. Windows Phone seems to have gained marketshare at the expense of BlackBerry, which now has a 2.3% user base. Interestingly, the last place operating system, Symbian, has also seen an increase in marketshare during this quarter even though no new smartphones have been launched running on the OS.

Apple has continued its run as the top smartphone manufacturer with Samsung being a distant second followed by LG, Motorola and HTC. With latest launches from Motorola and HTC, including that of the Motorola Nexus 6, we could see some changes in these numbers in the next quarter.
