Contraband is a new Xbox exclusive co-op game by Avalanche Studios

A cooperative game based on a brand-new IP was announced at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase today. Titled Contraband, the game is described as a "co-op smuggler’s paradise" and is being developed by Avalanche Studios. Not much else other than a cinematic trailer was revealed today, which points towards heist of some sort named the Sun River Job. Catch the trailer above.

As expected from the Just Cause franchise developer, this will be an open world adventure. The title is set in the fictional world of 1970s Bayan, and the studio"s Apex Engine is powering it.

"To fully deliver on our vision for Contraband, we have an amazing team at Avalanche Studios that are pushing the boundaries with the next generation of our Apex Engine, the technology behind all our games, including the Just Cause series," said game director Omar Shakir. "We built the engine to unlock the creativity of our developers and we’re excited to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of Xbox Series X|S."

More details about the game will be revealed at a later date. Considering we didn"t even get a release window today, it"s unclear how far along the title"s development is.

The Xbox and Avalanche Studios partnership means Contraband will be exclusive to Microsoft platforms, and Xbox Game Pass members will be getting it on day one as well.
