In February, Apple announced its next major OS X for Mac users. OS X 10.8, code named Mountain Lion, will naturally add a number of new features and improvements to the platform. While Apple has yet to reveal a release date for Mountain Lion, a new rumor claims the final version could launch as early as June.
AppleInsider reports, via unnamed sources, that AppleCare in the Europe, Middle East and Africa territories is already in the middle of hiring new customer support team members that would be needed to help users with Mountain Lion. The report also claims that this kind of activity could mean that OS X 10.8 could be launched in a matter of weeks.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, that also happens to be the same time period for Apple"s 2012 edition of its Worldwide Developer Conference. The event will be held in San Francisco from June 11th to June 15th. It certainly would be a perfect event to launch Mountain Lion; Apple launched the last version of OS X, code named simply Lion, in July 2011.
Apple could have a number of major announcements planned for WWDC. Those might include a cheaper version of its MacBook Air notebook along with some hints about the next version of its iOS mobile operating system.
