The Lumia 900 is now available for sale but, as we reported earlier this week, some owners of the newest Windows Phone device from Nokia discovered that they could not connect to AT&T"s data network after the phone goes into airplane mode or after the phone is turned off.
Now Nokia has announced that it has found a software issue that"s causing the data connection problems and is working to both fix the issue and compensate current Nokia Lumia 900 owners for the trouble.
In a post on Nokia"s official blog, the company states:
In short, a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity. This issue is purely in the phone software, and is not related to either phone hardware or the network itself. As a proactive and prudent measure, we decided to take immediate action. We have identified the issue, and have developed a solution.
Current Lumia 900 owners can either go ahead and swap their phone with a new unit that doesn"t have the software problem or wait until April 16th to download a patch via the Zune Network. Furthermore, Nokia has announced that anyone who already has or will purchase a Lumia 900 before April 21st will get a $100 credit on their monthly AT&T bill.
Nokia ends its blog post by saying:
We believe the Nokia Lumia 900 is unlike any other smartphone on the market. It represents an exceptional balance of power, ease of use and value, all wrapped in one of the most stylish, striking designs ever. At $99.99 at AT&T, we think the Lumia 900 is already a fantastic deal. And now, it’s unbeatable.
