The co-founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Cyanogen Inc., Steve Kondik, has stated on the CyanogenMod blog that Cyanogen Inc. is not pivoting to apps, nor is it shelving CyanogenMod. He said Cyanogen Inc. will continue to sponsor the community-led CyanogenMod ROM project and continue to have an active role in its development.
The blog post was made after news in the last few days that Cyanogen Inc. had laid off some of its workforce. The layoffs apparently heavily affected the systems and QA teams, leading many to believe the company will shift to focus on apps.
The blog post was written to target the news written about the pivot to apps. Kondik opens the post writing:
“I wanted to quickly address the circus of misinformation which has sprung up recently, particularly for everyone who uses CM [CyanogenMod] or has been involved with the project.”
Steve Kondik ended the post alerting readers that more information on the issue will be posted to the Cyanogen Inc. website soon. In the upcoming announcement, we could see Kondik outline concrete plans about what the company will do with regards to "bringing it [CyanogenMod/Cyanogen OS] to a larger audience.”
