Cyberpunk 2077 delayed by five months, now coming in September

CD Projekt RED shared some bad news regarding its upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077 today. The massive title will be missing its original April 16 release date, and is now slated to land on September 17, 2020. This five-month postpone was attributed to needing more time to polish the game and make it "perfect."

"We are currently at a stage where the game is complete and playable, but there"s still work to be done," said CD Projekt RED co-founder Marcin Iwiński and head of studio Adam Badowski in a joint statement. "Night City is Massive - full of stories, content and places to visit, but due to the sheer scale and complexity of it all, we need more time to finish playtesting, fixing and polishing."

The delay is not a short one, and after the release date announcement at last year"s E3 that included Keanu Reeves, this should be even more of a stinging announcement for fans. However, delaying the game to better the launch product is almost never a bad thing. The studio said to expect regular updates on the progress it"s making as the new September release date comes closer.

In addition to the single-player campaign of the RPG, Cyberpunk 2077 is also confirmed to be getting a multiplayer portion as post-launch content. Since separate teams are taking care of both sides, we will have to see whether if these new release plans will mean both single and multiplayer pieces will arrive together.
