Fans" excitement over the impending release of the next big game by CD Project RED has been palpable, especially after the game was briefly teased at Microsoft"s E3 briefing earlier this month. The developer also showed an hour-long demo of the game behind closed doors, with rave reviews from those in attendance.
Unfortunately, while the tease may have stoked fans" hopes that the game will be released soon, according to studio president Adam Kiciński, the game is not even at an alpha stage yet. The lacking quality of the game was also why the CD Projekt RED chose to showcase the game only behind closed doors, and thus it may seem that the demo shown was more akin to a vertical slice than the showcase for a select portion of a much larger product.
With respect to why the game was shown off in this fashion, Kiciński said:
"...we show[ed] the game behind closed doors – this is not the final quality yet.
This is the most polished part of the game we have now, prepared in some sense to show it to people outside the company.”
The creator of the original Cyberpunk roleplaying game, Mike Pondsmith, has said in a recent interview, "I"ve waited 30 years to get this, it was worth it. You guys can wait a few more years.” Pondsmith is known to be collaborating with CD Projekt RED in the development of Cyberpunk 2077 and, so, it"s likely he is quite familiar with the release schedule of the game.
