Cyberpunk action RPG The Ascent unveiled during Inside Xbox

During the first event of its Xbox 20/20 schedule, namely the Inside Xbox episode today, Microsoft also showed off a trailer for the cyberpunk-themed title The Ascent.

Developed by Sweden-based Neon Giant - made up of AAA veterans that have worked on Gears of War and Wolfenstein - and published by Curve Digital, this is a sci-fi (specifically cyberpunk) action RPG that can be played either solo or in up to four-player local and online co-op. The isometric perspective allows for the use of a double-aim mechanic for which players can "utilise the full screen and choose between multiple targets anywhere in the environment". Here"s an excerpt of the description:

You play as a worker, enslaved by the company that owns you and everyone else in your district. One day, whilst sent on a routine assignment to make use of your skills with a cyberdeck, you are suddenly caught in a vortex of catastrophic events. The Ascent Group, the largest mega corporation on the planet, shuts down for unknown reasons, causing the automated security systems to go haywire.

The Ascent is set to release this year on PC - Steam confirmed thus far -, Series X, as well as the Xbox One family of consoles. Keep in mind that while the title supports Smart Delivery - meaning the relevant assets will be downloaded and you"ll receive the next-gen upgrade for free if you buy it on Xbox One -, features like 60FPS, 4K and HDR will not be available across all platforms. For example, 4K is not supported on Xbox One S and the original Xbox One, and HDR is dependent on TV and presumably monitor functionality.
