Day of the Tentacle, Full Throttle, and Grim Fandango head to Xbox Game Pass

Three classic LucasArts adventure games that never released on Xbox consoles are finally coming to the platform as well as Xbox Game Pass. The arrival of Grim Fandango Remastered, Day of the Tentacle Remastered, and Full Throttle Remastered was announced during the latest Xbox Podcast by the director behind the games, Tim Schafer.

These more recent Double Fine-developed remasters of the 90s titles bring enhancements such as overhauled visuals and audio - which can be swapped on the fly to the original versions -, improved controls, and developer commentary.

Here are quick rundowns of the humorous adventure games straight from Xbox for those who are uninitiated:

  • Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!
  • Originally released by LucasArts in 1995, Full Throttle is a classic graphic adventure game from industry legend Tim Schafer, telling the story of Ben Throttle; butt-kicking leader of biker gang the Polecats, who gets caught up in a tale of Motorcycles, Mayhem, and Murder.
  • One of the most acclaimed adventure games of all time is now back, better than ever. Grim Fandango‘s epic story of four years in the after-life of Manny Calavera, travel agent to the dead, has been remastered to look, sound, and control even better than when it won countless awards and was considered one of the best games of the year upon its original launch. Grim Fandango still stands as a classic of the genre, with unforgettable characters and unique combination of film noir and Mexican folklore.

The Xbox Game Pass release sees these titles arrive to Xbox One and Windows 10 on October 29, and Xbox Series X|S at launch. The remasters will also be available as separate purchases for $14.99 each. While originally the announcement also listed Android as a platform, utilizing the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate cloud gaming capabilities, it was revealed to be a mistake and has since been removed.

Aside from this trio, Microsoft also recently announced eight more games that will be available via its Xbox Game Pass subscription variants later this. Moreover, As a part of Xbox Game Studios, Double Fine is currently developing Psychonauts 2, which is slated to launch sometime next year.
