Delayed again: Crackdown 3 pushed back to 2019

In what seems to be the rule rather than the exception, Microsoft has once again delayed its upcoming open-world action-adventure game until next year, according to two separate reports.

Kotaku and Polygon have confirmed with internal sources at the company that Microsoft is pushing back the release of the you-can-destroy-anything title to sometime next year. First revealed at E3 2014, the game was delayed from its initially expected release in 2016 to 2017, and then again to sometime this year. If the reports are true, this would mark the third such delay in the history of the game"s development.

Being worked on by both Sumo Digital and Reagant Games, the game"s claim to fame was built around leveraging cloud computing to make every part of the game world destructible. Such lofty ambitions, however, seem to have caught up with the developers, resulting in constant delays.

Following the cancellation of big-name and audacious projects like Phantom Dust, Fable Legends, and Scalebound, the company"s first-party ambitions seem to be dwindling. Sea of Thieves, too, hasn"t received quite the welcome Microsoft was hoping for. These lows must be paramount on Microsoft execs" minds, as a source claims the company is giving Crackdown 3 more and more time to develop in an attempt to avert a similar disaster.
