Today, Dell announced two new OptiPlex PCs, including the OptiPlex 7071 Tower and the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra. The latter is a modular all-in-one PC, similar to a Surface Hub 2 in that it"s a display with a removable compute unit.
"IT leaders are faced with pressure to keep costs down while giving employees flexibility and freedom to work in ways they’re most productive. As more organizations move to open floor plans, they’re looking for technology that maximizes desk space, employee productivity and IT investments," said Dave Lincoln, vice president of Fixed Computing, Dell. "Thirty-five years ago, Dell disrupted the way PCs were made and delivered to the world. With the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra, we are changing the category again, with an innovative desktop solution that’s hidden in plain sight."
As far as performance goes, the OptiPlex 7070 Ultra comes with a Whiskey Lake CPU, although it"s boosted a bit by a 25W TDP. You can get it with up to a Core i7-8665U, which is the vPro variant of the chip, 64GB RAM, dual 1TB SSDs, and integrated graphics.
But the key is that your business may want to upgrade that over time, with Dell noting that many businesses want to upgrade their PCs more frequently than they want to upgrade their monitors. The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra puts that idea into an all-in-one form factor.
It also has multiple USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports, including both Type-A and Type-C, the latter of which supports DisplayPort. You can use them to connect up to three external monitors, so users will still be able to have a multiple monitor setup. The screen itself is meant to be flexible in terms of use case, offering a flexible height, a VESA mount, and more.
And then there"s the OptiPlex 7071 Tower, which is pretty straightforward. This one offers a real desktop CPU, up to a 95W Core i9-9900K, and it has dedicated graphics up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080.
Both PCs will be available on September 24. The OptiPlex 7070 Ultra will start at $749, while pricing is still not available for the OptiPlex 7071 Tower.
