While Dell and AMD started their partnership a while back when Dell announced it would release multiprocessor servers with AMD"s Opteron chip inside, new reports state that Dell may extend their AMD support to include desktop computers by September of this year. Glen Young, an analyst for Citigroup Investment Research, states that while configuration options are not yet known, the AMD offering from Dell is definitely going to happen. He also believes that it is this very deal that made AMD confident enough to guarantee an increase in market share by the end of the year.
While this is good news for AMD and Dell, Yeung does advise that Dell"s profits could be hurt this year by continued weak sales in the PC world and price cuts designed to attract more customers.
