Today, Dell is introducing a new configuration of its XPS 13 laptop. You can now get it with an OLED display. Previously, you could get it with either an FHD+ or UHD+ screen.
The resolution of the OLED model is actually 3,456x2,160, whereas on the 4K LCD configuration, the resolution is 3,840x2,400. The lower resolution is probably a good thing, as OLED screens tend to use more power, so having fewer pixels could be trying to compensate for that. Of course, the actually reason this was done is because that"s what the supplier had to offer.
Indeed, the recent surge of laptops with 16:10 displays meant that there weren"t quite as many configurations available as there were for 16:9 laptops. But now that the 16:10 aspect ratio is becoming more and more common, suppliers are making more variants, such as an OLED display.
The Dell XPS 13"s claim to fame is still that it has the smallest footprint for a 13-inch laptop. This generation"s model comes with Intel"s 11th-generation processors, which get you faster memory, Thunderbolt 4, and Iris Xe graphics. Indeed, Intel"s newest integrated graphics are almost twice as powerful as the Iris Plus Graphics found in 10th-gen "Ice Lake", which were also almost twice as fast as the UHD Graphics that came before them.
The new OLED version of the XPS 13 is available today, and it"s priced at a $300 premium over the FHD+ screen.
