Today, Microsoft announced more mobile gaming ambitions, as it will be using the Designed for Xbox program for mobile accessories. These include controller clips, mobile controllers, and "other hardware" that"s designed to be used with smartphones and tablets.
Microsoft started sending out invitations to test out its Project xCloud game streaming service a week and a half ago, and at the moment, it only works with Android. If you"re testing it out, you"ve probably already realized that you need a clip to attach your Xbox controller to your phone. Mobile-first controllers should be interesting as well though, as they"d presumably be more portable and easier to use on-the-go.
Design by Xbox mobile accessories will be made by 8bitDo, Gamevice, HORI, PowerA, Razer, and more. The first is actually the MOGA Mobile Gaming Clip for Xbox Wireless Controllers, and it does exactly what you"d expect it to, fitting phones that are up to 3.12 inches wide. It"s going to launch in November for $14.99, and you can pre-order it now.
Microsoft also noted that it"s planning to expand support for the Xbox Wireless Controller in the future, noting that Apple has already added support in iOS and tvOS.
