As many of you may know, Blizzard"s launch of Diablo III earlier this week was a bit problematic. In short, many players who bought the action-RPG sequel found they were unable to play thanks to Blizzard"s Battle.net servers being crushed from the influx of so many people trying to log on.
In a post on the Battle.net forums, Blizzard offered some apologies for the situation, admitting, "Despite very aggressive projections, our preparations for the launch of the game did not go far enough." The post added:
We’re continuing to monitor performance globally and will be taking further measures as needed to ensure a positive experience for everyone. This includes some maintenance to implement additional improvements for each region.
The post also announced that Diablo III"s new real money-based auction house feature, which will allow players to buy, sell or trade items for real cash, won"t launch on May 22nd as originally planned, saying, "We’ll post further updates on that in the near future."
Finally, Blizzard revealed that one of the problems with the Diablo III launch was related to the game"s achievement features. It states:
Some players began to notice early on that achievements were either not being earned properly, or not being saved between multiple logins. We’re investigating this issue and will provide a specific update as soon as possible.
