Last Thursday, Microsoft rolled out its latest Windows 10 Insider Preview for PCs, build 10166. The latest release inches the OS ever closer to its all-important RTM milestone, which it should hit this week, after pushing back on its original plans to hit RTM last week.
As you would expect of a preview this close to release, 10166 didn"t include any new features, but did bring some extra polish to the user experience, along with some last-minute bug-squashing.
The following day, Microsoft followed up on its PC release with the rollout of a new Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview, which has the same build number as the latest PC version. Development of the new smartphone OS is some way behind its PC counterpart; indeed, Windows 10 Mobile isn"t expected to launch until as late as November of this year.
That means there"s still a lot more work to do on Mobile before it"s ready for it"s official release - indeed, many Windows Insiders who have been testing the OS on their phones in recent months have expressed dissatisfaction over the state of the user experience in preview builds.
This feedback from Insiders likely has something to do with the fact that Mobile build 10166 introduces no big features, but focuses almost entirely on improving the UX, with closer attention to smaller details than previous builds have offered.
We"d love to hear what you think of Microsoft"s latest Windows 10 preview releases, which share the same build number, but which are also at very different stages of development.
Do you think build 10166 for PCs is close to RTM-quality? Do you think there are still a few too many bugs that need to be squashed? Or are you perhaps of the opinion that Windows 10 for PCs really isn"t going to be ready for its July 29 launch?
And what about the Mobile build? Has build 10166 for phones made your device more usable? Have you encountered any major issues since upgrading to it? And what do you think of Windows 10 Mobile so far?
