The Walt Disney Company introduced its own streaming service, Disney+, in late 2018 before it went live a year later. Since then, the service has been providing exclusive and classic Disney programs, among other content, to customers in the U.S.
First-time users also get to access Disney+ free of charge for the first week of subscription. However, the service has quietly discontinued its seven-day free trial period for new subscribers (via Numerama). In a statement, the company says:
“We continue to test and evaluate different marketing, offers, and promotions to grow Disney+. The service was set at an attractive price-to-value proposition that we believe delivers a compelling entertainment offering on its own."
The free trial is no longer available at least in the U.S. and France, where Disney+ was launched more than two months ago. That means new users who will sign up for the service will have to pay the monthly subscription fee of $6.99 (or $69.99 per year) upfront in order to start watching content. It"s not clear when the free offering was ended.
