Dotcom's Mega loses domain before launch

Kim Dotcom, the creator of Megaupload has been ardently promoting his new upcoming service called Mega. This is supposed to be a successor of Megaupload that got shut down by the FBI a while ago.

The new service was destined to to be hosted on Me.ga but Stuff.co.nz reports this will not be the case. Apparently the domain is owned by Gabon and their authorities have suspended it while commenting that their country “cannot serve as a platform or screen for committing acts aimed at violating copyrights, nor be used by unscrupulous people.

Dotcom, who is currently waiting for his trial and possible extradition from New Zealand to the US, said on Twitter they had an alternative domain ready and said the US government is on a witch hunt.

Mega is scheduled to launch on 20th of January next year but so far there hasn’t been any word on the new domain they will be using.
