Double Fine"s campaign to raise money to fund an upcoming (and still untitled) adventure game via Kickstarter launched in February. As many of you know, the campaign"s $400,000 goal was reached in just eight hours and it broke $1 million inside of a day. By the time the campaign ended a month later, Double Fine had raised over $3.3 million for the game"s development, thanks to the tens of thousands of its Kickstarter backers.
However, Double Fine also knows that perhaps some people didn"t have the chance to contribute to the game"s funding at that time or heard about the project after the Kickstarter campaign ended. This week, Double Fine launched yet another way to contribute money to the game, this time via PayPal.
For $15, people can still get the full game, DRM free, for PC, Mac, Linux, and/or Android when it is released, along with a Steam game code for PC or Mac. You will also still get an early beta of the game for PC and Mac, along with access to a private forum where you will get more information from Double Fine on the game"s development.
Finally, PayPal backers will get streaming HD versions of the ongoing documentary of the game"s development as made by 2Player Productions. The video team has gone ahead and released the first part of that documentary series for free via YouTube.
The first episode chronicles Double Fine and its founder Tim Schafer as they talk about wanting to free themselves from the typical developer-publisher relationship. You also get to see how amazed the team is as their original Kickstarter campaign went far beyond their expectations.
