During the Xbox Games Showcase pre-show with Geoff Keighley, Square Enix dropped a surprise trailer for Dragon Quest XI, revealing that the massively popular JRPG is coming to Xbox platforms Xbox One and Windows 10 on December 4. On the same day, the title will enter the Xbox Game Pass services on both PC and Xbox One. Catch the new announcement trailer above.
This will be the enhanced and expanded Dragon Quest XI S version that"s coming to the Microsoft platforms. This will be the first time the long-running series (the original title coming 34 years ago) is slated to appear on an Xbox console also, with it only landing on PlayStation, Nintendo systems, and, more recently, PC platforms previously.
Here"s how the game is described by Square Enix:
This is an expansive and epic (and trust us – that is exactly the correct descriptor) adventure that puts you into the shoes of a young hero, known as the Luminary.
Hunted by a powerful enemy, you and a growing party of friends and allies, will embark on a quest across vast continents and dangerous oceans. You’ll fight fearsome foes in fast-paced turn-based battles, collect and craft valuable equipment and learn of a threat that threatens to destroy the world itself.
The enhanced "S" version comes with additional companion side stories, a retro-games inspired 2D mode, a 16-bit world to visit locations from previous games, Japanese audio, and a photo mode. Moreover, it was expressed that new players to the franchise shouldn’t be afraid to jump into the newest title, as each one comes with its "own unique characters, setting, and story, and requires no knowledge of previous entries to enjoy."
