Low prices spurred demand for DDR chips in last week"s spot market while prices for low-density SDRAM continued rallying amid chip shortages, said DRAMeXchange. Demand for DDR regains strength after Christmas holidays. DDR chip sales in the spot market regained strength last week as distributors in Asia began to restock inventory to prepare for the coming Chinese New Year sales. China market showed strongest demand compared to the US and Europe markets, said DRAMeXchange.
Average spot prices for 256Mbit (32Mbitx8) DDR 266/333/400MHz stayed flat from December 31, 2003 to January 6, 2004. Market observers project DDR prices will stay flat or edge up slightly for the coming week, while DRAMeXchange projects the price uptrend will extend into the end of the Chinese New Year.
Low-density SDRAM spot prices hot on chip shortages and robust demand. Prices for 16Mbit (1Mbitx16) and 64Mbit (4Mbitx16) SDRAM rallied last week due to strong demand from the Chinese consumer electronics makers and the ongoing shortage, DRAMeXchange said. Spot prices for 16Mbit (1Mbitx16) and 64Mbit (4Mbitx16) SDRAM grew 0.9% and 2.6%, respectively, from December 31, 2003 to January 6, 2004.
