Back in February, Dropbox announced that it had launched a new update for its Android app which automatically uploads all of an Android device"s photos and videos to a single Dropbox folder. Now Dropbox has announced an expansion of that program. In a post on its official blog site, the company said that the Camera Upload feature now works with "just about any camera, tablet, SD card or smartphone — pretty much anything that takes photos or videos!"
While all of that is cool, what"s even more interesting is that if you enable the Camera Upload feature, you automatically get 500MB of free additional storage space with your first automatic camera upload. The more pictures and videos you upload with this feature, the more free space opens up. Dropbox"s upper limit on free storage space is 3GB with this method.
This is on top of the 2GB of free space Dropbox already offers its users, which is a somewhat sneaky way to match the 5GB of free cloud storage space that Google Drive offers its customers. Of course, Microsoft"s SkyDrive service beats them both with 7GB of free storage space (or 25GB if you have been grandfathered in).
