The next generation of eReaders is about to offer a much better and faster color display thanks to the latest version of E Ink Gallery tech designed by E Ink. The company announced the E Ink Gallery 3, the next generation of color displays for eReaders with full-color gamut support; cyan, magenta yellow, and white particles in each pixel.
The E Ink Gallery 3 focuses on improving two primary aspects of digital readers: refresh time and resolution. E Ink says displays based on Gallery 3 can update black and white colors in 350ms, all colors in the fast mode in 500ms, the standard mode in 750-1000ms, and the best colors mode in 1500ms. It is a major improvement compared to the first generation of E Ink Gallery, which takes up to ten seconds to update in the best color mode. Resolution-wise, Gallery 3 doubles the pixel density from 150 PPI to 300 PPI, providing sharper text and better image quality.
Another noteworthy improvement in the E Ink Gallery 3 is pen input with a 30ms delay for black and white, plus several other colors. Finally, the displays will offer a new ComfortGaze front light with reduced emissions of blue light for better reading comfort.
E Ink says the company invested more than $100 million in the research and development of Gallery 3, and it plans to showcase the technology at California Display Week on May 10, 2022.
