In a surprise announcement at the end of the EA Play Live show today, Skate creative director Cuz Parry and game director Deran Chung showed up on screen to announce that a new entry in the skateboarding franchise is in development.
There were no gameplay or even a teaser trailer attached to the announcement, but the two makers said that "We"re back. We"re doing it. Skate"s happening," and that the development team has been "waiting years to make the right game, at the right time, with the right idea, and we’re really, really pleased to say that we’re here."

It doesn"t look like the game will be coming anytime soon, however, as development is still in "really early" stages and there"s "a long way to go" according to the duo.
Originally released in 2007 and gaining a massive fanbase, Skate went on to have two more sequels in 2009 and 2010. But, despite fan campaigns to bring back the skateboarding franchise, EA has been silent until now. Not even a name for the new entry or platforms were revealed today, but we can expect it to hit at least the next generation consoles when it finally lands.
