EA lays off about 350 staff, affecting marketing, publishing and other areas

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson announced today that the mega-publisher has made some "organizational changes" that results in around 350 people from its 9,000 strong workforce in the company losing their positions. The affected staff is from the marketing, publishing, and operations divisions. The publisher"s current presence in Japan and Russia is also affected by the move.

Wilson said in the announcement that the move is to further refine the company, deliver on its commitments, and meet player"s needs. He added that with these "organizational changes" it will put a deeper focus on delivering more quality games and services.

"The changes we’re making today will impact about 350 roles in our 9,000-person company," said Wilson. "These are important but very hard decisions, and we do not take them lightly. We are friends and colleagues at EA, we appreciate and value everyone’s contributions, and we are doing everything we can to ensure we are looking after our people to help them through this period to find their next opportunity."

This announcement comes only a month after Activision Blizzard laid off 8% of its workforce last month, amounting to almost 800 jobs.
