EA is trying to motivate Origin users to bolster their account security with a new tactic, offering a free month of Origin Access to anyone who enables login verification (two-factor authentication) in its launcher.
Enabling this is easily done through the EA Account Security settings page, where the security code sending process can be set to email, SMS, or any authenticator app. After setting it up, whenever a user tries to log into their Origin account from a new device, they will need to provide EA with the security code from whatever methods they have chosen. See this EA help page for more information.
The offer is valid throughout October - observing Cybersecurity Awareness Month - and those who already have login verification enabled don"t have to do anything extra to get their free month. This offer is for Origin Access Basic, which will show up on protected user accounts on or shortly after November 1, giving them unlimited access to over 200 games.
Those who already subscribe to either Origin Access Basic or Premier still get to enjoy the offer too, with EA saying it won"t charge those eligible for the offer in November.
This is not the first time a high profile publisher has given incentive to enable two-factor authentication. Last year, Ubisoft gave away a Rainbow Six Siege skin to those enabling the security feature on Uplay. In all cases, this is a win-win situation for consumers, considering they get a more secure account and a nice bonus to go with it.
