In February, Electronic Arts released Battlefield 3: Aftershock for iOS devices. The free multiplayer FPS game, an offshoot of EA"s highly successful Battlefield shooter series, was quickly panned by players who experienced numerous performance issues and bugs that made the game unplayable. A few days later, EA pulled the game from the iOS App Store.
Now it looks like the game was so badly developed that EA has basically decided to cut its losses. Vox Games reports that EA sent out a statement which read:
In the interest of bringing consumers only the highest level of quality mobile entertainment, EA Mobile has decided to suspend development and support of Battlefield 3: Aftershock and refocus its resources on other titles. The Aftershock servers will be live through March 31st, 2012, and customers who have already downloaded the game can continue to play until then.
Even though the game was a free app, this is still a major black eye for EA and the game"s development team which clearly didn"t do enough play testing before Battlefield 3: Aftershock was first launched on the App Store. EA apparently has plans to release a totally different iOS Battlefield game at some point in 2012.
