The Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA) recently made some changes to their website, removing their registered members" "cancel" link in their profiles. Most of the members of ECA joined to get the Amazon.com discounts that the site offered, a feature that was recently removed, along with the cancel link on member"s accounts.
Members on the forum believe this might be a tactic to keep members from canceling their account, where users are now forced to send a written letter to ECA just to cancel. Members of ECA aren"t even able to submit an email or phone ECA to cancel their membership. This makes the process longer and more difficult to cancel accounts.
If members fail to cancel their membership before their renewal date, members will be charged again or if users signed up for free in their first year. Some of the forum members have already begun creating threads on the forum to cancel their accounts, which are promptly closed to further replies.
ECA claims that the "cancel" account link never actually functioned and will look into making an automated system in the future. A member on the ECA forums said that the cancel link was there for so long because the site owners were unaware of the module until another member posted about it.
ECA is still not canceling accounts by forum, email or phone requests and require members to actually send them a letter if users wish to discontinue their membership.
