Naan Studios, the developers of the ever-popular Twitter client, has announced the launch of Photofon, a new client initially for the iPhone only. Stripping away the majority of a user"s timeline, Photofon shows only the tweets with photos, along with the accompanying tweet.
Although the release is only available for the iPhone, it is unlikely to stay that way for too long. Considering Echofon is a universal app, Photofon is sure to make the jump to the iPad in the near future. Photofon will likely appeal to photography enthusiasts, or those that follow users that upload a lot of photos.
Also announced is the upcoming release of a Windows client. Echofon for Windows will answer the call of users who have been using to tweet with Echofon without having to go through the Firefox extension. Details are scarce, but considering the offerings on other platforms, the Windows version will most likely include hashtag searching, drag-and-drop attachments, and multiple account support.
With Apple"s announcement of Twitter integration in iOS 5, it is likely that we will see more Twitter app developers branching out to offer unique features, having profited from the lack of integration for a while. In the end, the consumer will benefit the most from this expansion, with a wider range of options to choose from and more innovative ways to transmit and consume information in 140 characters.
