Microsoft"s Edge browser on iOS keeps picking up improvements as time goes on, and today the company is rolling out a new update with some significant changes. Version 42.9.0 doesn"t come with a new changelog on the App Store, but OnMSFT reports that there are a few new features, starting with a picture-in-picture mode.
Basically, when you"re watching a video on the internet, you"ll now be able to have the video playing on the screen as you keep browsing other web pages. The "floating video" feature can be enabled in the browser"s advanced settings, and it also lets you move the floating window around once it"s enabled. It won"t keep playing videos if you close the browser, though.
Other additions reported by OnMSFT include NewsGuard integration, a feature that provides ratings for news in the address bar. NewsGuard is also available as an extension for a number of browsers, and it basically rates the credibility of news sources, helping you spot fake news more easily.
Lastly, users in the United States can now choose MSN Kids as the news source in the New Tab page, which might be useful for parents setting up a device for their children.
If you"d like to download the latest version of Edge for iOS, you can do so from the App Store. Also, if you"re a fan of Edge, be sure to sign up for the Insider Program to test the upcoming Chromium-based version of the browser on desktop devices.
