The Lumia 640 is now available to buy on pay monthly contracts on EE, the network announced today. Microsoft"s latest smartphone is just one of a handful of devices that support Wi-Fi calling on EE, which allows you to make phone calls using your mobile number through your Wi-Fi network.
EE is launching the handset with no upfront cost on pay monthly contracts starting at £16.99 per month and the network will be the only place to buy the cyan variant of the Lumia 640 in the UK. That plan comes with 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB 4G data each month and if you"re an existing EE customer, you can get the same plan at the discounted price of £14.99 per month.
EE is also offering the Lumia 640 on 4GEE Extra plans, which start at £19.99 per month and offer the same benefits along with inclusive 0800 number calls, the UK"s fastest 4G speeds and inclusive calls and texts while roaming in selected EU countries.
The Lumia 640 is one of the latest Microsoft smartphones and aims to bring the large screen Windows Phone experience at an affordable price. The handset has a 5-inch 720p HD IPS display with ClearBlack display technology and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and is available in a range of colours. It"s powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and a microSD card slot to expand the storage by up to 128GB.
On the polycarbonate back is an 8MP camera with 1/4" sensor size, which supports Full HD video while the 1MP front facing camera supports 720p video. Also on board is Wi-Fi n, Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE), an FM Radio and NFC while the entire package is powered by a 2500 mAh battery and Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 with Lumia Denim firmware.
Microsoft said recently that the Lumia 640 will be one of the first devices to get Windows 10.
