EE has just released its six monthly financial results, bringing them up to the end of June. Let’s just say the former Orange and T-Mobile networks will be smiling today!
Not content with being the first network in the UK to offer 4G to the consumer, it’s now known that EE is actually doing quite well - to the tune of £734 million in pre-tax earnings, with a turnover of £3.2 billion. Not too shabby. While not documented, it should be noted that when an existing EE 3G customer moves to 4G, they will pay approximately 10% more than their former tariff.
While they announced at the beginning of June that 500,000 customers were making use of the only 4G network in the UK, by the end of June that number had rose to 687,000 customers. That’s one hell of an uptake, and with a self-set target of one million 4G subscribers by the year"s end, something tells us they will surpass that. EE’s CEO Olaf Swantee has said:
Today’s results demonstrate our success in building our new brand and differentiating our network to drive commercial momentum while continuing to deliver cost savings to increase our margin performance. We’ve doubled the rate at which we’re adding 4G customers and doubled our 4G speeds across 15 cities to deliver the world’s fastest network for our customers – indoors, outdoors and on key commuter routes.
While currently the only way is up, EE may notice their 4G uptake slowing to Edge like speeds in the next few months with O2, BT, Vodafone and Three all looking to offer 4G to their existing (and potential) customers.
