Elbphilharmonie Hall in Hamburg opens with 360-degree concert stream

It was nearly two years ago that YouTube promised support on its platform for 360-degree videos. The past two years has seen the platform increase its content of 360-degree videos, as access to cameras that support it has become easier. Today, the Elbphilharmonie Hall in Hamburg is opening its doors for the first time and is live streaming the event on YouTube in 360.

In partnership with Google Arts & Culture, the Elbphilharmonie Hall has been working to create an online experience for those that are unable to visit the newly created landmark. In November, Google created an archive for the establishment that offers a collection of photos, videos, and historic documents. As mentioned previously, YouTube is now streaming the hall"s first concert in 360-degree so that viewers can enjoy the magnificent concert hall and its music.

360-degree videos have come a long way since YouTube promised them for its platform. Two years ago, the process of creating 360-degree footage was quite expensive, requiring customized GoPro rigs that would easily cost $4000 and up. But as time passed, other companies would enter the 360 space and offer more consumer-friendly and affordable solutions. If you missed today"s performance, be sure to check back tomorrow, when the stream will go live once again.
