Game publisher Electronic Arts is the latest tech based company to report its earnings for the quarter that ended on June 30. According to EA"s press release the publisher recorded a non-GAAP revenue amount of $524 million. That"s slightly less than the $539 million EA had for revenue for the same period a year ago. The company recorded a non-GAAP net loss of $123 million compared to a loss of $78 million for the same period a year ago.
EA also gave sales updates for various games. It stated that Crysis 2 has sold three million copies to date while Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2 and Portal 2 have sold two million units each to date. In addition, pre-orders for EA"s highly anticipated first person shooter Battlefield 3 are over 10 times that of the last game in the series Battlefield Bad Company 2, according to a report over at VG247.com.
Battlefield 3 is firmly set for release in the October-December quarter along with other titles like Need For Speed The Run. However another major EA game, the MMO Star Wars The Old Republic, still doesn"t have a firm release date. In its financial press release EA said that the game is still set for a nebulous "holiday 2011" release. The publisher recently started to take pre-orders for Star Wars The Old Republic including orders for a $149.99 Collector"s Edition for the game. EA also said that its recently announced acquisition of casual game developer PopCap Games is expected to close sometime in August.
