You may know Elgato for its gaming devices, specifically high-quality video capture cards such as the 4K60 Pro launched late last year. But the company also has a wide ecosystem of smart home accessories - which work exclusively with Apple devices - under the Eve brand.
Today, the company is announcing that the latter part of its business will be the sole focus of its efforts, as it sells the Elgato Gaming division over to Corsair, one of the world"s biggest names in gaming accessories, peripherals, and components. Most recently, Corsair announced a series of rather unique-looking RAM modules which feature 10 RGB LEDs.
With the sale of the gaming-oriented division, Elgato is changing its name to Eve Systems, and it will focus exclusively on its wide range of smart home accessories, which include everything from lamps, smart power plugs, and even water controllers. Markus Fest, founder of Elgato and CEO of Eve Systems, believes the move will help both businesses:
“Our gaming business has been wildly successful, and that success is inextricably linked to the Elgato brand. The brand has been with us for almost twenty years and we are obviously a little sad to see it go, but Corsair is a fantastic company and will be a great new home for Elgato. At the same time our Eve product line will benefit from a focused team and a dedicated organization. This move will further strengthen both product families.”
While it"s still unclear what impact the sale will have on either of the company"s divisions, Eve Systems does say it plans to announce smart home products at IFA in Berlin, which runs from August 31 to September 5 of this year.
