Epic Games has released information about the leaked build of Gears of War 3, after news of its leak circulated the internet . Thanks to someone using the alias of ANONYMOUS360, the game reached different websites specializing in shady downloads, though Epic have already addressed concerns. The news, posted on Neowin yesterday, is no longer an issue, assuming what Epic have said is accurate. The version of the game that leaked was usable only by JTAG Xbox 360 consoles, meaning it would have had a low effect even without any address.
Epic told GameSpot that the footage released by those with the development build of the game is not from the current game build, and is also not accurate to what the current build offers. Their wording was as follows:
We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the web and [we are] working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation. This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011.
Footage from the development build of the game rapidly traveled around the Internet, as did the actual game itself. Weighing in at around 8GB, the game included both online and single-player, though it contained bugs, as well as issues with the cutscenes. Despite Epic"s address, it is still highly likely that JTAG owners will cease sharing the build, though due to restrictions placed upon JTAG consoles (they are unable to connect to Xbox LIVE for more than a few hours before permanent console banning), the damage caused will be significantly reduced.
